Hungary vs Germany

Hungary and Germany are set to trade tackles at the Puskas Arena in an exciting UEFA Nations League showdown.

A hard-fought 1-0 home triumph over Euro 2020 runners-up England on Matchday 1 got Hungary’s maiden League A campaign off to a flyer. Following an inspiring start to their new Nations League journey, the ‘Magyars’ slipped to a 2-1 defeat away to Italy last time out. Having recorded their first triumph over England in more than 60 years, the Hungarians are now looking to break another hoodoo and beat Germany for the first time since an iconic 8-3 victory in the 1954 FIFA World Cup! There’s plenty of reason for optimism in Marco Rossi’s camp, as his men have won 50% of their last 14 Natoins League fixtures (D3, L4). With six of those seven wins coming ‘to nil,’ Hungary will hope to stay compact at the back.

On the other hand, after coming from behind to hold Italy to a 1-1 away draw in their Group A3 curtain-raiser, Germany tasted their own medicine against England last time out (1-1). Hansi Flick remains unbeaten in his 11 matches in charge of the national team. Yet the ex-Bayern Munich boss had won his first eight games as ‘Die Mannschaft’ manager before drawing the last three in a row. Under Flick’s stewardship, the Germans have opened the scoring in five of their six away games, racking up four wins (D1). Worryingly, though, Germany’s solitary clean sheet in the Nations League dates back to their inaugural tournament fixture in September 2018 (0-0 vs France).
