Guangzhou FC vs Wuhan Three Towns
Relegation-threatened Guangzhou FC take on high-flying Wuhan Three Towns in a high-stakes Chinese Super League fixture at the Jinzhou Stadium.
Guangzhou’s disastrous start to the new Chinese Super League season hit a new low when they lost 2-1 at Shanghai Shenhua last time out. An abysmal run of five defeats from six league matches (W1) sees the ‘South China Tigers’ head into this round one point adrift of safety. Conceding first could prove detrimental to Guangzhou’s bid to get their underwhelming top-flight campaign underway. They’ve lost all five league matches in which they fell behind this term. It comes as no big surprise, though, as they’ve netted a league joint-low two goals to date. Indeed, Liu Zhiyu’s men are the only side in the Chinese top division yet to score before half-time this season.
On the other hand, Wuhan Three Towns have hit a purple patch since a 1-1 draw at Shanghai Shenhua, racking up three consecutive league victories by an aggregate score of 10-2 since. It includes a scintillating 5-0 romping of Hebei last time out, which helped them become the first Chinese Super League team to smash a 20-goal barrier this season (21). Speaking of Wuhan’s proficiency in front of goal, Pedro Morilla’s men have picked up two wins from three top-flight travels this term (D1), netting 3+ goals in each success. Another landslide triumph could be on the cards, considering they thrashed Guangzhou 6-0 in the reverse fixture.
