Georgia vs Bulgaria

Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena is the venue as Georgia and Bulgaria go head-to-head in a low-profile UEFA Nations League showdown.

It has been a flying start to the new Nations League campaign for Georgia. They head into proceedings having won all three group stage matches, including a 3-0 thrashing of North Macedonia last time out. After taking their unbeaten streak to eight games, all competitions included (W7, D1), the Georgians are two fixtures away from matching their longest undefeated run since 2011. Confidence should be sky-high in the home camp as the ‘Crusaders’ dismantled Bulgary 5-2 in the reverse fixture earlier this month. What’s more, Willy Sagnol’s men have racked up three wins ‘to nil’ in their last three home internationals and have only ever lost one Nations League outing on home turf (W4, D2, L1).

On the other hand, despite grabbing a late first-half lead, Bulgaria had to settle for an underwhelming 1-1 draw with continental minnows Gibraltar last time out. After a three-game winless start to the new Nations League season (D2, L1), the Bulgarians will be out to avenge a morale-crushing defeat in the reverse fixture and potentially post their first away win since September 2018. Indeed, the ‘Lions’ have won none of their last 21 matches on foreign soil since a 2-1 beating of Slovenia in the inaugural Nations League season (D9, L12). It gets worse as Georgi Ivanov’s men have failed to keep a single clean sheet across their ten previous road trips.
