Fulham vs Tottenham Hotspur

Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur are set to lock horns at Craven Cottage in an all-London League Cup round-two tie.

Fulham’s life without long-serving talisman Aleksandar Mitrovic was off to a promising start. Marco Silva’s 10-man side held title-bidding Arsenal to an action-packed 2-2 Premier League draw last weekend. That result forms part of Fulham’s mixed three-game league start (W1, D1, L1). With all three matches featuring at least one goal beyond the 70th minute and two seeing a strike after the 85-minute mark, a dramatic finish could be on the cards. The ‘Cottagers’ will hope a late drama could inspire them to a first H2H win over Tottenham since 2013 as they bid to arrest an underwhelming run of nine consecutive H2Hs without winning (D1, L9). Worryingly for Silva, his men have lost their last seven home meetings with ‘Spurs,’ including three of the last four without scoring.

Meanwhile, the heartbreaking departure of the club’s cult hero, Harry Kane, has not damaged Tottenham Hotspur’s morale in the new season. After a goal-glutted 2-2 draw at cross-city rivals Brentford on day one, ‘Spurs’ have recorded back-to-back 2-0 wins over Manchester United and Bournemouth, consolidating their bid to return to European football after missing out on a top-seven finish for the first time in 12 years last term. Yet to lose a competitive match in charge of Tottenham, new boss Ange Postecoglou will be confident about avoiding becoming the first ‘Spurs’ manager to lose at Craven Cottage since Harry Redknapp back in 2011. But he may have to navigate an evenly-contested encounter, with Tottenham’s last three visits to this venue resulting in a single-goal margin win for them.
