Freiburg vs RB Leipzig
RB Leipzig head to the Europa-Park Stadion to meet Freiburg, looking to take all three points and their hosts’ place in the Bundesliga standings.
Amends for a devastating 5-1 defeat in the DFB-Pokal semi-finals only a few days ago could prove a strong motive for Freiburg as they bid to extend a three-match winning streak in the Bundesliga and further a two-point lead on fifth-placed Leipzig. The abovementioned humiliating means ‘Breisgau-Brasiliane’ have now lost their last three competitive H2Hs, including a 3-1 loss in the reverse fixture, which could dampen the spirits in the home camp. As could their abysmal run of only one victory in their last five home outings in all competitions (D1, L3) and the fact they scored under 1.5 goals in four of those five matches. Home and away, Christian Streich’s men are winless in their last eight meetings with Leipzig (D3, L5), which is another ominous sign ahead of the kick-off.
Unlike their hosts, there are plenty of reasons for Leipzig to be looking forward to this weekend after mustering five wins in their last six competitive games (L1), with the only exception of a 2-0 defeat at Bayer Leverkusen on their most recent Bundesliga travel. Three of those five victories yielded a clean sheet, a feat ‘Die Roten Bullen’ have failed to achieve in any of their last five competitive encounters against Freiburg. But it’s not all rosy in the visiting camp, considering the abovementioned loss at Leverkusen condemned them to a fourth defeat in six away games in all competitions (W2), three of which saw Marco Rose’s side fail to get on the scoresheet. So Leipzig cannot take anything for granted despite netting 2+ goals on two of their last three competitive visits to Freiburg.
