Fiorentina vs AC Milan
Fiorentina and AC Milan are set to exchange tackles in an intriguing Serie A match-up at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
Fiorentina were minutes away from registering their first Serie A draw of the season last time out, but Juventus’ last-gasp winner evened their win/loss balance this term (W6, L6). Encouragingly, though, the hosts have gone from back-to-back Serie A homes defeats to a brace of 3-0 league victories at Artemio Franchi and could now make it three top-flight home wins in a row for the first time since September 2018. However, ‘La Viola’ have failed to beat Milan in any of their last five league meetings on home turf (D3, L2) since a 2-0 win in August 2015. Snapping that run will require improving their bounce-back ability, having surrendered the points in all four Serie A matches in which they conceded the opening goal this season (L4).
Meanwhile, high-flying Milan remain one of just two teams across Europe’s top-five divisions yet to lose a league match this term (W10, D2), alongside fellow Serie A leaders Napoli. Though a 1-1 draw with Inter Milan before the international break halted Milan’s seven-game winning Serie A run, the ‘Rossoneri’ have plenty to play for here. After picking up 15 road triumphs in Italy’s top-flight in 2021, Milan could become only the second team in Serie A history to win 16+ away league matches across a single calendar year. The visitors’ hopes of reaching that feat will likely hinge on breaking the deadlock, as they’ve won all nine Serie A games after scoring first this season. Having lost only three league fixtures at Fiorentina since 2002, Milan look set to maintain their impressive start to the season.
