Faroe Islands vs Armenia

Tórsvøllur sets the stage for a high-stakes UEFA Nations League encounter between the Faroe Islands and Armenia.

It’s been a dreadful Group C4 start for the Faroe Islands as they could only manage a 1-1 draw against North Macedonia at home in round one before succumbing to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Latvia. As a result, Hakan Ericson’s men commence this matchday bottom of the group, which hardly bodes well, considering they take on better-ranked Armenia. Four defeats from their last five internationals (D1) can’t inspire much confidence either. The impending home return won’t bolster the Faroes’ spirits, considering they’ve lost four of their five most recent outings on this ground (D1), scoring a meager average of 0.4 goals per game. Desperate for any kind of encouragement, they could perhaps find comfort in a three-match unbeaten home streak in the Nations League (W2, D1).

In the meantime, Armenia will touch down in Torshavn seeking amends for a disastrous 2-0 away defeat against 10-man North Macedonia last month. Oleksandr Petrakov’s side conceded both goals with a numerical advantage, overshadowing a thumping 4-1 home triumph against Latvia on matchday one. Both matches produced precisely two second-half goals, highlighting the potential for plenty of action beyond halftime. But the visitors could be on the receiving end of any potential second-half drama after losing their last six internationals on foreign soil, three of which saw them fail to get on the scoresheet. On top of that, they’ve only ever won two Nations League games on the road (D2, L6).
