Everton vs Sheffield United

Everton and Sheffield United are set to square off at Goodison Park in a bottom-half Premier League showdown.

Despite being knocked down from a three-game winning league streak with a 1-1 draw at Luton Town last weekend, Everton head into their final home game of the season in high spirits. Sean Dyche’s men have thrived in adversity, defying an eight-point deduction to secure top-flight survival with plenty of games to spare. Avoiding defeat here would see the Toffees string together a five-match unbeaten run in the Premier League for the first time this season. Confidence is at an all-time high following four successive home league wins without conceding, suggesting Everton’s traditionally imperious results in their final home game of the campaign will continue. They’ve registered six wins in their final home league games across the last eight campaigns (D1, L1).

On the other hand, Sheffield United paid the ultimate price for first-half profligacy in last weekend’s 3-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest, taking their woeful tally to 100 conceded goals this Premier League campaign. Only Leicester City’s 1908/09 side capitulated more often in a top-flight season since the start of the 20th century (102). As if that’s not humiliating enough, Chris Wilder’s men have gone winless in their last 12 league outings (D3, L9). On a rare positive note, the Blades have claimed more away wins in the Premier League (3) than against any other side. In fact, they’ve won five of their last seven league visits to Goodison, including the two most recent in a row without conceding.
