Denmark vs Sweden
Parken Stadium forms the backdrop for an all-Scandinavian friendly between Denmark and Sweden.
The final stage of Denmark’s preparations for their second successive European Championship appearance kicks off amid a rough patch for Kasper Hjulmand’s men. They’ve blown hot and cold across their last three internationals (W1, D1, L1), with each game seeing one or both sides fail to score in matches garnering under 2.5 total goals. Since that’s been the case in Denmark’s three H2H meetings with Sweden since 2018, connoisseurs of action-packed football can’t be enthusiastic about this encounter. However, the Euro 1992 winners won’t care about the aesthetics, especially after winning 13 of their last 15 home outings, including nine without conceding (D1, L1). Denmark should be confident about strengthening that formidable record against a Sweden side they’ve lost to only once across their last nine H2Hs (W5, D3).
On the other hand, as if missing out on the 2022 World Cup wasn’t disturbing enough, Sweden failed to qualify for Euro 2024, marking their first absence from the most prominent continental tournament since 1996. Back-to-back upsets have spelled the end of Janne Andersson’s long-term tenure. Ex-Denmark international Jon Dahl Tomasson became the first foreigner to take charge of Sweden when he replaced Andersson in February. But his reign was off to an abysmal start, with Portugal thrashing the ‘Blagult’ 5-2 on his touchline debut. Tomasson posted his first win as Sweden’s manager last time out, squeaking past sub-par Albania 1-0 to extend the Swedes’ run without a draw to five straight matches (W3, L2).
