Denmark vs San Marino
Parken Stadium hosts a lopsided Euro 2024 qualifying Group H fixture between Euro 2020 semi-finalists Denmark and continental minnows San Marino.
Following an unimpressive group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar last December, Denmark’s bid to make amends by reaching the European Championship finals twice in a row has been off to an indifferent start. Kasper Hjulmand’s men have alternated between winning (2) and not (D1, L1) across their opening four Group H outings, falling two points behind the leading duo, Finland and Kazakhstan. Despite Denmark’s poor start to their qualifying campaign, they can draw confidence from 13 of their last 17 home Euro qualifiers (D3, L1), including five on the spin. San Marino’s visit to Copenhagen will add another victory to the tally, in all likelihood, with Denmark bidding to overshadow Finland’s 6-0 rout of Europe’s worst footballing nation.
Indeed, San Marino’s four-game losing start to their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, accompanied by an abysmal 0-13 goal difference, is hardly a surprise, given the visitors have only managed one draw in their 80 Euro qualifiers (L79)! There’s a good reason behind San Marino’s bottom-placed position in the FIFA rankings. They’ve developed a habit of conceding in abundance, letting in a disastrous average of 4.4 goals per Euro qualifier while netting a paltry 0.1 goals per game in return! ‘La Serenissima’ head into proceedings having lost their last nine Euro qualifiers away from home without scoring, fueling Denmark’s hopes of securing an emphatic victory. Additionally, they’ve conceded 4+ goals seven times during that nine-match stretch! But after capitulating 3+ times in just two of their last six outings (D1, L5), San Marino could avoid another catastrophe in their first-ever H2H.
