Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur

Selhurst Park is the venue as Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur go head-to-head in an all-London Premier League match-up.

Crystal Palace bounced back from a 3-0 walloping at the hands of Fulham on Boxing Day by dismantling rock-bottom Southampton 2-0 last time out, solidifying their position in mid-table. Back to Selhurst Park, where they had won three Premier League matches in succession before being humiliated by the ‘Cottagers,’ Patrick Vieira’s men are looking to win back-to-back home league games against Tottenham for the first time following a 3-0 victory in this corresponding fixture last season. They can draw some confidence from the fact they’ve not lost consecutive home league fixtures since February 2022. Worryingly, though, the ‘Eagles’ have lost their first league outing of a calendar year on each of the previous seven occasions the match has been a London derby, a run spanning back to 1990.

As for Tottenham Hotspur, an underwhelming 2-0 home defeat to Aston Villa in their first Premier League game of 2023 saw them surrender a coveted fourth place to Manchester United, whom they now trail by two points. Antonio Conte’s men have been the epitome of ‘Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde’ on the road this season, with their eight Premier League away matches alternating between different outcomes (W3, D3, L2). Falling two goals behind has been a common theme for ‘Spurs’ of late, as they’ve conceded two unanswered goals across their last three Premier League travels (W1, D1, L1). Since they’ve won none of their ten most recent top-flight visits to fellow London rivals (D4, L6), Tottenham’s agony may drag on.
