Crystal Palace vs Newcastle United

Crystal Palace’s effort to claw their way out of the Premier League drop zone continues at Selhurst Park, where they take on European hopefuls Newcastle United.

Oliver Glasner emerged as Crystal Palace’s savior toward the end of last season after inspiring the club to a remarkable seven-game unbeaten league run down the final stretch (W6, D1). However, Palace’s form has fallen off a cliff at the beginning of the new Premier League campaign, with the Eagles stuck in the bottom three after a stomach-wrenching 2-2 draw at Aston Villa last weekend left them with just one win from 12 matches (D5, L6). It was a rare occasion in which Palace netted more than one goal, with Glasner’s side lamenting the division’s second-worst scoring record of 10. One goal could do the trick here after Palace kept a clean sheet in their last two home meetings with Newcastle United in the Premier League (W1, D1).

In the meantime, Newcastle United’s mini-revival before November’s international break (W3), featuring a heroic 1-0 home win against Arsenal, fell into oblivion after a disappointing 2-0 home loss to West Ham earlier this week. Had they won that fixture, Eddie Howe’s side would’ve finished Matchday 12 only two points adrift of second-placed Manchester City. However, they remain firmly in contention for a top-four finish, trailing fourth-placed Arsenal by four points. Bridging that gap hinges on the Magpies’ ability to find consistency on their travels after blowing hot and cold across their six Premier League away matches this season (W2, D2, L2). Worryingly for the traveling fans, the visitors have lost six of their last eight league games in London (W2).
