Crystal Palace vs Manchester United

Resurgent Manchester United head to Selhurst Park to take on out-of-sorts Crystal Palace in an exciting Premier League fixture.

Goals on either side of halftime inspired Crystal Palace to a confidence-boosting 2-1 win against second-tier QPR in midweek League Cup action, injecting some life into their disjointed start to the season. Oliver Glasner’s side recovered from a two-goal deficit to hold Leicester City to a 2-2 home draw last weekend, but it only extended their winless Premier League start to four games (D2, L2). It’s their worst run after the opening four top-flight matches since Frank de Boer’s infamous tenure in 2017/18 and massively contrasts their seven-game unbeaten league streak at the tail-end of last season (W6, D1). A 4-0 thumping of upcoming rivals Manchester United was a standout victory during that spell, extending Crystal Palace’s impressive unbeaten Premier League H2H run at Selhurst Park to four matches (W2, D2).

Ominously, Manchester United failed to find the back of the net in three of those four winless outings after going unbeaten on 12 consecutive visits to this ground between 1991 and 2020 (W9, D3). However, Erik ten Hag’s men take this trip in rampant form. The Red Devils trounced Southampton 3-0 in their first Premier League fixture after the international break before putting seven unanswered goals past third-placed Barnsley in the League Cup. On the back of such formidable scoring form, Manchester United look to defy an underwhelming record of just two wins from their last eight top-flight travels (D2, L4). But there’s another issue the visitors must address as they’ve suffered ten defeats on their last 16 Premier League visits to London (W2, D4).
