Coventry City vs Manchester United

A place in the FA Cup final is up for grabs as second-tier Coventry City and Manchester United go head-to-head at Wembley Stadium.

Coventry City pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in FA Cup history to book only a second semi-final date in the club’s history, scoring twice beyond the 96th minute to beat Wolverhampton 3-2 in the quarter-finals. Manager Mark Robins was on the scoresheet for Manchester United in the 1991 final to save Sir Alex Ferguson’s job, but he could be Erik ten Hag’s detriment here. It will require the Sky Blues to defy an underwhelming run of three defeats from their last four Championship outings (W1), all of which saw them concede multiple goals. Keen to become the first non-Premier League club to reach the FA Cup final since Cardiff City in 2008, Coventry can draw confidence from crashing United out of the League Cup fourth round in their last encounter in 2007.

Manchester United will be glad to return the favor this weekend after claiming a nerve-shredding 4-3 quarter-final win against fierce rivals Liverpool to set up their second consecutive FA Cup semi-final for the first time in nearly two decades. After suffering a heartache in last season’s grand final against Manchester City, the Red Devils could settle the account this term if they can dust themselves up following a dismal four-game winless run (D3, L1). Lapses of concentration in the later stages have been synonymous with Ten Hag’s side during that stretch, as they’ve conceded beyond the 80th minute in three of those four matches. On the upside, Man Utd’s FA Cup record against lower-league opponents is formidable, with just two defeats across their last 52 such contests.
