Colorado Rapids vs LA Galaxy
Dick’s Sporting Goods Park plays hosts to a high-stakes Major League Soccer showdown between Colorado Rapids and LA Galaxy.
Colorado Rapids hauled back a 1-0 halftime deficit to hold Orlando City to a 1-1 home draw last time out, losing further ground on the Western Conference playoff line. Coming into this matchday, they are winless in six MLS fixtures (D3, L3), trailing seventh-placed LA Galaxy by six points. Much of Colorado’s substandard results have emanated from an uneventful frontline that has netted a measly average of 1.15 goals per MLS match this season. But on the bright side, a clear majority (68%) of Colorado’s MLS goals scored this term have come on home turf (15/22), with Robin Fraser’s side finding the net in their last six MLS home outings, at an average of 1.5 per game.
In the meantime, LA Galaxy succumbed to an unexpected 3-2 home defeat to San Jose Earthquakes last time out, making it three reverses out of four MLS fixtures (W1). No wonder their lead on eighth-placed Seattle Sounders stands at a single point ahead of the kick-off. Desperate to get back to winning ways as soon as possible, Greg Vanney’s men will be looking to defy their underwhelming five-game away league form (W1, D2, L2). Much of those hopes will rest on Galaxy’s ability to open the scoring, as they’ve only won one of the nine MLS games in which they conceded first this season (D1, L7).
