Chonburi vs Muang Thong United

Chonburi Stadium is the venue as third-placed Chonburi take on bottom-half Muang Thong United in a must-win Thai League 1 showdown.

Since falling to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Bangkok United in mid-October, Chonburi have racked up a substantial seven-game unbeaten league streak (W5, D2) to move within four points of top-placed Buriram. Additionally, the ‘Sharks’ have only lost one of their eight Thai League 1 matches on home turf this season (W5, D2), courtesy of an action-packed 3-2 reverse at the hands of Chiangrai United in early October. Since then, they have strung together five top-flight home encounters without losing (W4, D1), winning the last three in a row by an aggregate score of 7-1, including a 3-0 thrashing of Ratchaburi last time out. By contrast, they have only won one of their previous five top-flight H2Hs as hosts (D1, L3), scoring under 1.5 goals four times in that sequence.

Meanwhile, Muang Thong United have alternated between victories and defeat across their last three Thai League 1 outings (W2, L1) since a goalless away draw with Samut Prakan City in November. Interestingly, each of those three results (win/lost) saw the winner on the day open the scoring and go on to win by at least a two-goal margin. That said, the ‘Kirins’ have failed to record a victory in their last three top-flight travels (D1, L2), frustratingly drawing a blank twice in the process. Indeed, a lack of scoring prowess has seen Muang Thong net a measly average of 0.71 goals per away league match this term. But if they find the net here, it’s likely to take place beyond half-time, as four of their five Thai League 1 goals scored away from home this season have arrived in the second half of play.
