Celta Vigo vs Valencia

Estadio de Balaidos is the venue as Celta Vigo and Valencia go head-to-head in a dead-rubber affair on the final La Liga day.

New Celta Vigo manager Claudio Giraldez is optimistic about a flying finish to a disappointing La Liga campaign after inspiring the Galicians to back-to-back league wins for the first time this term. A pair of identical 2-1 victories against Athletic Bilbao and Granada have ensured ‘Los Celticos’ remain part of the top flight for another season, giving them a chance to make it three league triumphs on the trot since a run of five between April and May 2021. However, those prospects are in the balance, with only three sides losing more La Liga matches at home this season than Celta’s seven. On top of that, the hosts’ six-game winless H2H run against Valencia casts further doubt (D1, L5), with their last two meetings at Balaidos yielding identical 2-1 defeats.

On the other hand, Valencia’s nightmarish form down the final stretch of 2023/24 continued with a disheartening 3-1 home loss to Girona last time out, extending their winless league run to six matches (D1, L5). As a result, the visitors have nothing but pride left to play for on the final weekend, having lost ground on the European spots. But following last season’s dismal 16th-place finish, manager Ruben Baraja can be proud of his side’s improvement, with Valencia destined to end this campaign in the higher rankings. But there’s still a lot to do for Baraja, with Los Che heading into the season finale as the only top-half side to have lost 10+ league games on the road!
