Burnley vs Arsenal

Turf Moor is the venue as out-of-sorts Burnley take on underperforming Arsenal in a high-stake Premier League showdown.

Despite taking the lead early in the second half, Burnley fell to a 3-1 loss at Goodison Park last time out as they head into proceedings amid a four-game winless Premier League start (D1, L3). Bringing the final three matches of the 2020/21 season into the equation, the ‘Clarets’ are now winless in their last seven Premier League fixtures (D1, L6), netting just three goals in that sequence. Additionally, since beating Aston Villa 3-2 at Turf Moor in late January, the hosts have gone winless in their subsequent 12 Premier League games on home turf (D6, L6), worryingly scoring under 1.5 goals on each occasion. Sean Dyche can at least find some comfort in going unbeaten in all three top-flight meetings with his Arsenal counterpart Mikel Arteta (W2, D1) as his side seek their first Premier League win since early May.

Meanwhile, Arsenal eked out a hard-fought 1-0 home win over basement boys Norwich City last time out despite attempting 30 shots on goal, as many as they had in their opening three Premier League matches combined (29). Though that victory halted Arsenal’s three-game losing start to this top-flight campaign and steered them away from the drop zone, under-fire boss Mikel Arteta is not off the hook as of yet. Since the Spaniard arrived at the helm, the ‘Gunners’ have gone winless in three consecutive league meetings with Burnley after winning their previous ten such H2Hs on the trot. Arteta’s hopes of saving his job may well hinge on Arsenal’s flying start here, with the Gunners winning 14 of their last 16 Premier League fixtures when scoring the opener (D1, L1). Easier said than done, though, as the visitors have lost both league trips this term by over 1.5 goals ‘to nil.’
