Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester United

Out-of-sorts Manchester United travel to the Amex Stadium to meet mid-table Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League final round.

Unlike last season, Brighton head into the 2023/24 finale hopeful of finishing in the upper half of the table instead of pursuing back-to-back European qualifications. Manager Roberto De Zerbi prepares for his last game in charge of the Seagulls after the club announced they’d part ways with the Italian after this contest. De Zerbi has had Manchester United’s number, beating them in all three Premier League H2Hs to take Brighton’s winning streak to four. Another win would see Brighton become the first club in Premier League history to register five consecutive victories against United. However, scoring problems could throw a spanner in the works, with the hosts netting under 1.5 goals in their last seven competitive outings at the Amex (W3, D1, L3).

On the other hand, Manchester United kept their hopes of securing European qualification alive with a 3-2 home win against Newcastle United in midweek Premier League action, halting a three-game winless league run in the process (D1, L2). Level on points with seventh-placed Newcastle United, the Red Devils must better the Magpies’ result to avoid registering their lowest finish in the Premier League era. However, they’ve lost both top-flight visits to Brighton under Erik ten Hag without scoring, while they’ve won none of their last five away league matches (D2, L3). United’s defensive woes have seen them concede multiple goals in four of those five encounters. Another disappointing result could see Ten Hag wave goodbye to Old Trafford sooner than expected.
