Borussia Monchengladbach vs Hertha BSC

Borussia Monchengladbach and Hertha BSC are set to trade tackles at Borussia-Park in a tasty-looking Bundesliga clash.

Following a disappointing 10th-place Bundesliga finish in 2021/22, Borussia Monchengladbach waved goodbye to former boss Adi Hutter and replaced him with Daniel Farke. Farke’s touchline debut saw Gladbach dismantle non-league side Oberachern 9-1 in the opening DFB-Pokal round. ‘Die Fohlen’ maintained their predatory scoring form in a come-from-behind 3-1 home victory over TSG Hoffenheim on matchday one. Yet, despite overhauling a 1-0 deficit, Gladbach conceded a stoppage-time penalty to draw 2-2 away to newly-promoted Schalke 04 last time out. The hosts’ unbeaten start to the season is likely to go on as they’ve only lost one of their 11 previous home league meetings with Hertha (W8, D2, L1).

In the meantime, visiting Hertha BSC seem to have failed to learn their lesson after securing Bundesliga survival through relegation playoffs last season. Indeed, they suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat to second-tier Eintracht Braunschweig in the inaugural DFB-Pokal round and are winless in both Bundesliga matches this term (D1, L1). ‘Die Alte Dame’ seem unable to turn their fortunes around, and an underwhelming run of one win from their last 12 league away matches (D3, L8) is not inspiring. Home and away, Sandro Schwarz’s men are now winless in five Bundesliga outings (D2, L3), while no side has picked up fewer points in Germany’s top-flight in 2022 than Hertha (13). On the bright side, they’ve found the net in their last ten league games, their longest scoring streak in the Bundesliga since October 2018.
