Borussia Dortmund vs Paris Saint-Germain

Signal Iduna Park sets the stage for the first leg of a handsomely-looking Champions League semi-final tie between Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.

Borussia Dortmund pulled off an epic comeback in the quarter-finals, overturning a 2-1 first-leg deficit against Atletico Madrid with a stunning 4-2 home win to reach the Champions League semi-finals for the first time since losing the 2012/13 grand final. Despite their famous home crowd, Die Borussen have only won six of their last 12 Champions League knockout games at Signal Iduna Park (D1, L5). PSG’s visit doesn’t bode well, even though the Germans haven’t lost any of their three previous European H2Hs on home turf (W1, D2). Indeed, Dortmund failed to beat the record-time Ligue 1 champions when they shared the stage in this season’s ‘group of death’ (D1, L1). Edin Terzic couldn’t have hoped for a worse dress rehearsal as Die Borussen slumped to a humiliating 4-1 defeat at RB Leipzig last weekend.

In the meantime, PSG hauled back a two-goal deficit to hold Le Havre to an enthralling 3-3 home draw, but results elsewhere helped them clinch a record-extending 12 Ligue 1 crown. Manager Luis Enrique will not rest on his laurels, knowing the hierarchy’s ever-lasting desire to win the coveted ‘Big Ears’ for the first time. The Spaniard acted accordingly in the quarter-finals as Les Parisiens overhauled a first-leg deficit against Barcelona with an outstanding 4-1 win in Catalonia to set up this tie. However, Germany hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for PSG, as they’ve only won once in their last seven visits to the country (W1, D2, L4). That could change on the back of two consecutive away wins in the Champions League knockout stages.
