Beijing Guoan vs Changchun Yatai

Beijing Guoan and Changchun Yatai are set to trade tackles in a handsomely-looking Chinese Super League encounter at Worker’s Stadium.

Despite taking an early lead, Beijing fell to a goal-glutted 3-2 defeat at Zhejiang Professional last time out, stepping down from a decent-looking six-game unbeaten league run (W3, D3). Interestingly, after their six top-flight matches between late April and mid-May featured under 2.5 goals, the last two have seen both sides net at least twice in fixtures garnering 5+ goals. Considering two of Beijing’s three most recent Super League meetings with Changchun have produced over 2.5 goals, another high-scoring contest could be in store. But manager Stanley Menzo wouldn’t mind a better start from his men after the ‘Imperial Guards’ registered 75% of their home league goals conceded this season in the first half of play (3/4).

Meanwhile, Changchun Yatai surrendered a three-match unbeaten league streak (W2, D1) in an underwhelming 3-0 defeat to Shanghai Port at home last time out, falling three points behind the AFC Champions League qualification pace. Taking this trip on the back of a humiliating home performance could be a blessing in disguise, with Changchun going three consecutive Super League travels without losing (W2, D1), averaging 2.33 goals per game. Particularly eventful after the break, Chen Yang’s men have amassed 78% of their away league goals this term beyond halftime (8/9). But despite their impressive second-half showings, the visitors have failed to win both Super League matches on the road in which they’ve conceded first (D1, L1).
