Bayern Munich vs Wolfsburg
Bayern Munich will be looking to stay on the upwards trajectory when they take on an out-of-sorts Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena.
Since falling to a shock 2-1 away defeat to Augsburg in mid-November, Bayern Munich have got back to their best, racking up a four-game winning streak in the Bundesliga, including a 5-0 thrashing of Stuttgart last time out. Barring a 2-1 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt in early October, the ‘Bavarians’ have won their remaining seven Bundesliga home fixtures this season, including the last four in a row by an aggregate score of 9-2. Another seemingly straightforward task is lying ahead of Bayern, as they’ve not lost any of their last 24 top-flight H2Hs on home turf (W22, D2) en route to setting an unprecedented feat in the Bundesliga history. Julian Nagelsmann’s men have been nothing short of outstanding in the front third this season, having netted a staggering 52 goals after just 16 rounds to set a new Bundesliga record.
On the other hand, Wolfsburg are not enjoying the best of time, having gone winless in five Bundesliga games in a row (D1, L4) since beating Augsburg 1-0 at home in early November. Wolfsburg’s defensive frailties have seen them concede 2+ goals in each of their last five league outings on the trot, at an average of 2.6 per match. Adding to a sizeable list of concerns, ‘Die Wolfe’ have suffered six consecutive defeats across all competitions, setting a negative club record in the process. Indeed, they’ve failed to win any of their last three competitive road trips (D1, L2), conceding at least twice on each occasion. Particularly vulnerable after half-time, Florian Kohfeldt’s men have registered a clear majority (64%) of their Bundesliga away goals conceded this term in the second half of play (7/11).
