Bayern Munich vs Eintracht Frankfurt

Allianz Arena is the venue as Bayern Munich and Eintracht Frankfurt go head-to-head in a revenge-poised Bundesliga fixture.

Bayern Munich’s season is at a crossroads after surrendering their 11-year stranglehold on the Bundesliga. With a mouth-watering Champions League semi-final tie against Real Madrid waiting in the wings, manager Thomas Tuchel may rest some first-team stars. It might put Bayern’s three-game winning streak in all competitions in jeopardy. But buoyed by a 5-1 thumping of Union Berlin last time out, the Bavarians will be out to exact revenge on Frankfurt after losing the reverse fixture by that same scoreline. Achieving that feat would see Tuchel’s side extend their winning streak to four games for the first time in 2024. However, their two previous three-match winning runs this season have ended abruptly at the hands of their fellow top-six Bundesliga rivals, with both defeats yielding multi-goal margins.

The Bavarians’ notorious problems with inconsistent performance must be music to Frankfurt’s ears as the visitors bid to consolidate their hopes of securing European qualification following a 3-1 victory against Augsburg last time out. That result halted their four-game winless league run (D2, L2) and opened up a five-point gap on seventh-placed Freiburg, putting Die Adler on the cusp of European football. However, they must address their travel sickness to improve their chances of pulling off their first league double over Bayern since 1976/77 after losing their last two away league matches by an aggregate score of 6-1. Worryingly for Frankfurt, three of their four away league meetings with sides positioned better than them in the table have seen them concede precisely three goals (W1, L3).
