Barcelona vs Real Madrid

Barcelona and Real Madrid are set to square off at Camp Nou in one of the most highly anticipated fixtures on the La Liga football schedule.

A narrow 1-0 home win over Dynamo Kyiv saw Barcelona get off the mark in the Champions League following back-to-back defeats, handing the hosts a confidence boost heading into this clash. None of Barca’s last three La Liga fixtures have ended level (W2, L1) following a run of two consecutive uneventful draws with Cadiz and Granada in mid-September. Despite their underwhelming start to the season, the Catalans can draw inspiration from their impressive La Liga home form, having won four of their five top-flight matches at Camp Nou so far (D1). Furthermore, Ronald Koeman’s men have found the back of the net in 34 of their last 35 La Liga outings at this venue, barring a scoreless draw with Atletico Madrid in May 2021.

In the meantime, Real Madrid have suffered a dip in form of late, going from four La Liga victories in a row to back-to-back league matches without winning (D1, L1). Yet, Carlo Ancelotti’s side hammered Shakhtar Donetsk 4-0 in midweek Champions League action to inject a fresh dose of confidence going into this meeting. ‘Los Blancos’ have defeated Barcelona in their last three La Liga encounters and could make it four top-flight H2H victories on the trot for the first time since 1965. What’s more, a triumph here would see ‘Los Merengues’ register two straight La Liga wins at Camp Nou for the first time since 1965. But Madrid fell to a dismal 2-1 loss to Barcelona’s cross-town rivals Espanyol in their most recent La Liga trip and could succumb to two consecutive league defeats for the first time since the tail-end of the 2018/19 season.
