Austria vs Sweden

A race to qualify for Euro 2024 heats up in Group F as Austria and Sweden go head-to-head at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadion.

Austria let a 1-0 halftime lead slip through their fingers in a 1-1 draw away to Belgium last time out, ending a perfect two-game start to their qualifying campaign (W2). However, the Austrians enter this round top of Group F and look primed to secure a third consecutive appearance at the European Championship finals. Ralf Rangnick’s men have reigned supreme in their recent Euro qualifiers on home soil, winning the last six in a row while racking up an intimidating average of three goals per game in the process. Adding to Austria’s confidence, they’ve gone unbeaten in their three most recent H2Hs as hosts (W2, D1), conceding under 1.5 goals on each occasion while scoring precisely twice in both victories.

Meanwhile, visiting Sweden got their Group F journey off to a dismal start, succumbing to a 3-0 home defeat to Belgium in a curtain-raising fixture before making amends for that result with an overwhelming 5-0 triumph over Azerbaijan last time out. But whether they’ll reach the Euro finals for the seventh time on the trot is open for debate, as they already lag behind the two qualifying spots. Things may get worse before they get better, considering the visitors have lost their last two competitive away matches, both of which featured over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Interestingly, since completing their Euro 2020 campaign in the summer of 2021, none of Sweden’s eight away games have ended as a draw (W2, L6).
