Atletico Madrid vs Osasuna
Keen to return to winning ways in La Liga following a 3-3 draw with Valencia ahead of the international break, Atletico Madrid welcome Osasuna to the Estadio Wanda Metropolitano.
Though they’ve only lost once in their opening 12 La Liga fixtures, a win ratio of just 50% (W6, D5, L1) puts Atletico Madrid five points adrift of pacesetters Real Sociedad. Atletico’s hopes of retaining the La Liga crown for the first time in 70 years are in jeopardy, as they’ve drawn three of their last four league outings (W1). Still, Wanda Metropolitano remains a fortress, with ‘Los Rojiblancos’ going unbeaten in all six top-flight home matches this season (W3, D3). After avoiding defeat in their last eight La Liga H2Hs as hosts (W7, D1), Atletico look likely to keep their unbeaten home league start going beyond this matchday. Not as impenetrable as they used to be in the past years, the defending Spanish champions have conceded 13 goals this term, more than they had in any previous season under current boss Diego Simeone.
As for Osasuna, a return of five wins from their opening nine La Liga fixtures (D2, L2) looks like a remote memory. The visitors have gone from back-to-back league draws to a pair of defeats, failing to find the net in their last three La Liga outings in a row. They now face the prospect of losing three consecutive top-flight matches without scoring for the first time since November 2016. Additionally, ‘Los Rojillos’ have picked up just one victory in their previous 30 La Liga visits to Madrilean sides (D6, L23), drawing a blank in ten of the last 13. After netting 2+ goals in their first four La Liga road trips this season (W4), Osasuna have failed to score in their last two league away games on the trot (D1, L1).
