Atletico Madrid vs Getafe

After a sustained period of crisis in the early stages of the 2024/25 campaign, Atletico Madrid have transformed into one of Europe’s most in-form sides, with a 3-1 rout of Slovan Bratislava in midweek UEFA Champions League action extending their formidable winning streak in all competitions to ten matches. Back to La Liga after remarkably turning a 3-1 second-half deficit into a 4-3 home win against Sevilla last weekend, Diego Simeone’s charges are keen to put pressure on table-topping Barcelona. With only three points separating them ahead of the kick-off, ‘Los Rojiblancos’ are eyeing up a fifth consecutive league triumph at the Metropolitano, where they’ve yet to lose a top-flight fixture this term (W6, D2). Conceding first would unlikely knock the hosts off their perch, considering only Manchester City have won more points from losing positions in Europe’s traditional top-five league this season than Atletico’s 12. 

On the other hand, Getafe’s patchy form continued with a narrow 1-0 home victory against Espanyol last weekend, maintaining a see-sawing trend that has seen their four most recent La Liga outings fluctuate between wins (2) and losses (2). Now only two points clear of the bottom three, Jose Bordalas’ men leave the comforts of their home seeking their first away league win this season (D2, L5). However, that could prove easier said than done, not just because of the strength of their opposition but a notorious lack of goals on the road. Indeed, the visitors have only scored three times on their seven La Liga travels thus far, failing to get on the scoresheet on the last two, including a 2-0 defeat at Atletico’s fierce rivals Real Madrid.
