Atalanta vs Genoa

Newly-promoted Genoa head to the Gewiss Stadium to take on Atalanta in a tasty-looking Serie A fixture.

Conceding beyond the 80th minute condemned Atalanta to a stomach-wrenching 3-2 defeat at Lazio before the international break, knocking them down from a five-game unbeaten streak in all competitions (W4, D1). October’s pause should’ve given head coach Gian Piero Gasperini enough time to rally his troops as his men bid to avoid suffering back-to-back losses for the first time this season. However, ‘La Dea’ should feel comfortable here after keeping a clean sheet in all four home matches in 2023/24 (W3, D1), including three in Serie A. The last time Atalanta strung together four consecutive home shutouts in the competition was in March 2017. There’s a good chance they could replicate that feat this time, considering they’ve shut Genoa out in three of their last four H2Hs.

Meanwhile, the timing of the international break couldn’t have been any better from Genoa’s perspective, giving them plenty of time to recover from a morale-damaging 1-0 home defeat to AC Milan. Consistency has been an issue for Alberto Gilardino’s men this term, with their eight Serie A games fluctuating between different outcomes (W2, D2, L4). But Genoa’s immediate response to losing league games has been fantastic, with the Griffins following up their previous three defeats with positive results (W2, D1). Their bounce-back ability will face a stern test, considering they last won an away Serie A game against Atalanta in January 2016 (D3, L3). If it’s any consolation, those three draws came on their last three visits to Bergamo, with the most recent two yielding the same 0-0 scoreline.
