Arsenal vs Watford

Arsenal will be looking to keep their momentum going when they take on Watford at the Emirates Stadium in a seemingly winnable Premier League fixture.

Three Premier League defeats on the trot to open the 2021/22 season looks like a remote memory for Arsenal, who enter this round unbeaten in their last seven league matches in a row (W5, D2). Mikel Arteta’s men have gone from back-to-back Premier League draws to a pair of two-goal victories over Aston Villa and Leicester to whittle down the gap on fourth-placed West Ham to a mere three points. Another successful weekend is seemingly on the cards here, with the Londoners beating Watford in 11 of their 14 historical meetings in the Premier League (D1, L2) while they’ve found the net in the other three match-ups they failed to win. That bodes well with Arsenal’s recent attacking output at the Emirates, as they’ve netted 2+ goals in each of their last three top-flight fixtures here.

On the other hand, a 1-0 home defeat to Southampton last time out left Watford with one win in five Premier League matches (D1, L3), a sequence that currently keeps them only two points clear of the drop zone. That said, the visitors pulled off a stunning late comeback to beat Everton 5-2 in their most recent Premier League road trip and are now looking to win back-to-back away games in the competition for the first time since September 2017. None of Watford’s five Premier League away matches this season have ended as a draw (W2, L3), with the ‘Hornets’ failing to get on the scoresheet in each defeat. However, they have scored 2+ goals in both league victories on the road this term, while they’ve also netted precisely twice in two of their last four top-flight visits to Arsenal (W1, L3).
