Arsenal vs Burnley

Emirates Stadium is the venue as Arsenal and Burnley go head-to-head in a lopsided Premier League contest.

Arsenal’s response to last weekend’s controversial 1-0 defeat at Newcastle United was swift and telling as they netted on either side of halftime to beat Sevilla 2-0 at home in midweek Champions League action. Mikel Arteta’s men suffered their first loss of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign at St James’ Park (W7, D3) but start this round only three points below table-topping Manchester City. Considering they’ve been nothing short of impressive in competitive home action this season (W6, D2), the ‘Gunners’ should be confident of returning to winning ways in the Premier League despite drawing a blank in their last two top-flight H2Hs at the Emirates (D1, L1). By contrast, a 1-0 win over Manchester City was the only time Arsenal failed to score more than once in a home match this season.

On the other hand, Burnley’s humiliating return to the Premier League continued with a disheartening 2-0 home loss to Crystal Palace last weekend. That result extended their woeful losing run in the division to four matches, keeping them firmly embedded in the Premier League drop zone. Vincent Kompany’s men should consider themselves lucky for trailing 17th-placed Luton Town by a meager two points, knowing they’ve lost nine of their first 11 top-flight outings (W1, D1). Despite urging his players to bounce back, Kompany cannot realistically hope to scoop up points in London as the ‘Clarets’ have only won once in their last 16 Premier League clashes against Arsenal (D4, L11). On top of that, they’ve yet to keep a clean sheet in the top flight this term.
