Angers vs PSG

Stade Raymond-Kopa is the venue as dead-last Angers and runaway Ligue 1 leaders PSG go head-to-head in a lopsided league contest.

Angers’ faint hopes of avoiding relegation took a knock-out blow last weekend as Clermont came from behind to knock them down from a two-game unbeaten league run (D1, L1). Stuck a staggering 17 points below safety, ‘Le SCO’ come into proceedings on the back of consecutive home matches without losing (W1, D1), including a stunning 1-0 win over European hopefuls Lille last time out. However, Alexandre Dujeux’s men need nothing short of a miracle to keep their decent-looking home form running after going unbeaten in each of their last 28 meetings with PSG in all competitions (D7, L21). A failed attempt to arrest that underwhelming streak could lead to Angers’ relegation at the end of this round, provided results elsewhere go against them.

In the meantime, after back-to-back single-goal margin losses on either side of March’s international break, PSG have steadied the ship, winning their last two league matches to go eight points clear at the summit. Since a lackluster 3-1 defeat at Monaco in February, ‘Les Parisiens’ have racked up three consecutive away wins in Ligue 1 by an aggregate score of 7-1 but are still not the best traveling side in the division. Though they’re on the verge of lifting a record-breaking 11th Ligue 1 title, Christophe Galtier’s men have blown hot and cold on the road this season. But they should have all three points in the bag at Angers any day of the week, especially considering they’ve emerged victorious in 17 of their last 18 top-flight encounters against sides starting the round at the bottom of the table (L1).
