AC Milan vs Salernitana

AC Milan will be looking to end a disappointing 2023/24 Serie A campaign on a high when they meet a relegated Salernitana side at the Stadio San Siro.

It’s not been the season AC Milan fans expected, but a runner-up finish behind neighbors Inter is still an improvement on last season’s fourth-place ranking. However, the Milan hierarchy deemed that insufficient for Stefano Pioli to salvage his job at San Siro as the Scudetto-winning manager braces up for his farewell game. He’ll hope to ride off into the sunset on a high amidst the home side’s underwhelming run on just one win from their last eight outings in all competitions (D3, L4). Unfortunately for Pioli, his men haven’t fared well at home either, picking up just one victory across their last four games at San Siro (D1, L2), courtesy of a 5-1 demolition of Cagliari. But they’re odds-on to thump a Salernitana side they’ve lost to only once in their nine previous H2Hs (W5, D3).

Misery could be the only way to describe Salernitana’s humiliating Serie A campaign. Last weekend’s 2-1 home loss to Hellas Verona left ‘I Granata’ at a measly 16 points, the joint-lowest tally among Europe’s traditional top-five divisions. With nothing but pride left to play for, the visitors head to San Siro, where they’ve never triumphed against Milan, buoyed by a run of three draws across their last four H2Hs (L1). Salernitana’s decent form against ‘I Rossoneri’ pales to their woeful record of no win in 2024 since beating Verona in December (D4, L16). Confidence stems from their spirited performance on their last Serie A travel, as they came minutes away from beating Juventus, only to concede a stoppage-time equalizer in a dramatic 1-1 draw.
