Arsenal vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Saturday’s Premier League program gets underway at the Emirates Stadium with a handsomely-looking showdown between Arsenal and Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Arsenal delivered an outstanding performance in midweek Champions League action, demolishing Lens 6-0 at home to secure knockout progression with a game to spare. In contrast to an emphatic victory over the Ligue 1 outfit, the ‘Gunners’ fought tooth and nail to seal a last-gasp 1-0 win against Brentford last weekend and move back to the top of the Premier League table on the back of back-to-back league victories. Except for a highly unexpected development, Mikel Arteta’s side should make it three wins in a row, considering they’ve been almost unplayable at the Emirates this season, going unbeaten in all seven home league matches (W5, D2) while averaging 2.57 goals per game. Adding to Arsenal’s confidence, they’ve emerged victorious in their last two home encounters against Wolves in the Premier League.

In the meantime, Wolverhampton failed to build on a sensational 2-1 comeback win against Tottenham, slipping to a 3-2 defeat to Arsenal’s London rivals Fulham earlier this week. Consistency has been a glaring issue for the ‘Wanderers’ this season, as none of their last nine Premier League games have repeated an identical outcome twice in a row (W3, D3, L3). Regardless of their form woes, Wolves have been a pleasure to watch, especially on the road, where their last four competitive matches have featured over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet. Except for a narrow 1-0 win at Everton in mid-August, Gary O’Neil’s men have not kept a clean sheet in any of their seven remaining away games this season, casting further doubt on their effort to stage an upset in London.
